Aspects of Web Design

Web designing involves developing or creating content rich presentations which are accessible through the World Wide Web to all and sundry. Thus web designing primarily involves designing the content and the features of web pages and websites. The word “website” needs no introduction at all. It basically comprises a group of set of pages containing information about certain issues. These pages are in the form of web pages and are written in a certain code which is called a markup language. This language is HTML or Hyper Text Markup Language. Thus designing a website would be defined as creating and sorting out the web pages that constitute the website.

There are various and often widely differing priorities for different websites depending on their type and end goals. For example the aspects of web designing for a commercial website and a non commercial one might vary widely. Also, the Internet and in a manner of speaking, the World Wide Web is in a state of constant flux. Newer features are always occurring as a result of newer technological developments. However, there are certain features that manage to stay constant. For example it is said, that in a perfect website, a user must be able to access his desired content in three clicks only. Basically it implies that a website must be uncluttered and user friendly.

The other important factors operating behind web designing are firstly, the content of the website. This is the first and most vital features of web design. The content or rather the information put up on the website should be relevant and useful also, the content must be such that it succeeds in capturing the viewer ship of the sector of people that it was targeting in the first place.

The second vital element of web designing is what has already been touched upon before. The usability of the website is very important. It should be uncomplicated and uncluttered. That is, the user does not need to be a rocket scientist to have to be able to navigate his way through the site.

Thirdly, the style of the website including the graphics should be visually appealing to the user. It must be clean and sharp.

Lastly, the website should be easily accessible. This is where the technology of search engine optimization is used. The website should appear on the major search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and MSN and also on all major Internet Directories. Basically the site should be visible on the World Wide Web.

The Inner Workings of Web Designing

In the age of the all dominating Internet, the word website is one of the most common words in our vocabulary. We access websites for everything that we need to know about, from ways to make quick money, to the latest accessories of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, to analyzing the symptoms for a stomach ache. We also have our favorite list of websites, depending on their content and also their features. In the world of web designing it is often said that in an ideal website, the content should be three clicks away. No one likes to hunt around in a website for whatever they are looking for. Thus, the functionality of a website always depends on the kind of web designing that has gone behind it.

For the uninitiated, web designing is the task of designing web presentations which are content rich and making them available on the Web so that everyone can access them freely. Other than designing web pages and websites, web designing also comprises web applications and multimedia on the web.

Now, the process of web designing is an all comprehensive activity that includes specialization of various disciplines which include animation, design, marketing, search engine optimization, human-computer interaction, typography, photography and various others as well. The process of designing a website is multifaceted, and also involves the use of different kinds of technologies all of which go into the making of a website.

Firstly, all websites are written in a certain language which, in technical terms is called the markup language. This is called Hyper Text Manual Language or HTML as it is more commonly known. A markup language is basically a set of codes that act as annotations to text. These codes describe the required formatting that the text might need.  In the beginning, the available HTML was very basic, but with time, more and more complex types of HTML have been developed. Other than a markup language web designing also needs Style Sheet languages that include CSS and XSL. Web designing also makes use of client side scripting and server style scripting, database and multimedia technologies as well. Client-side scripting includes scripts like Java Script while server scripting to PHP, ASP, etc. Multimedia includes software like Flash and Silverlight.

Accordingly, web pages can be static or dynamic. Dynamic pages or websites are always changing due to a variety of factors like actions on the end of the user and so on. Static pages can always be programmed to change into dynamic pages.
