As is always found in the creative world, conflicts and controversies abound in the field of web designing as well. There are innumerable issues regarding the goals and the different ways in which web designing is carried out. As the world grows more and more complex along with technology-oriented progress, there are different aspects and modes that are being developed in this highly technical field. Thus with more and more choices being thrown up, the Web grows more and more intricate, no pun intended.

One of the first controversies that have arisen is that over the dichotomy between design and coordination. In the earlier years, websites would be nothing more than a bunch of static pages that were found online, giving you information about certain things. Nowadays, with more and mote complex applications the website has grown to become an autonomous entity, functioning on its own right. Thus any larger advertising project concerned with a particular product would be largely detached from the website which merely functioned as an online pamphlet. But nowadays, with the development of the website often, a major conflict arises between the two. That is, the website which functions like a mini advertising campaign all on its own, and the other promotional campaigns.

Another issue concerns the website-user interaction. While there are certain websites whose design and features do not vary depending on the devices of user input, like mouse, browser window size, text size and so on. There are websites which again modify themselves according to the current user situation. This is called the liquid design style and allows content to be more flexibly arranged to fit to the user’s preferences. Thus there is always a controversy or rather a raging debate concerning the pros and cons of each style.

Also, there are issues regarding the use of Flash technology. While proponents of Flash use it to create rich and dynamic or moving graphic content, the opposition claims that it should not be used because it is not very user friendly and often creates confusion with regard to the web-human interface.

Lastly another important debate is over form versus function. This basically debates whether a website should be more graphic rich and decorative or should it forgo such adornment for factors of functionality like text size, search engine optimization and so on. Thus web designers are continuously disputing as to which comes first, the visual appeal or the functionality.
